Shakira ‘deeply saddened’ by death of Brazil concert worker

“Event organizers confirm that an accident this Sunday, April 26 tragically claimed the life of a professional working on the assembly of the show’s structures,” Todo Mundo no Rio said in a translated statement on social media.
The victim, Gabriel de Jesus Firmino, suffered severe crushing injuries to his lower limbs after becoming trapped in a lifting system, local fire authorities told Reuters, citing eyewitness accounts.

The accident occurred at Copacabana Beach while crews were preparing for the Todo Mundo no Rio concert series, which features free headline performances. Although first responders provided immediate care at the scene and transported the worker to a hospital, he later died from his injuries. Organizers of the event expressed their solidarity with the victim’s family and the responsible company following the tragedy.

As of April 29, 2026, Shakira ‘s concert at Copacabana Beach is still scheduled to take place this Saturday, May 2.
