The 2026 Burning Man festival in Black Rock City, Nevada has concluded. The event was marked by the tragic deaths of two participants. Organizers have confirmed these incidents while the gathering continued its scheduled run through September 7.
A man in his mid-50s died at Burning Man after experiencing a medical emergency Thursday and receiving attempted lifesaving measures at an onsite emergency care center.
A second participant has died at this year’s Burning Man as the Nevada desert gathering entered its final days after rain, dust storms and other disruptions. Craig Mann, 60, was found dead in his camp around 3 p.m. Saturday, the Burning Man Project said.
“Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with the participant’s family, friends, campmates, and all those affected by this loss,” the organization said.
The 2026 Burning Man event has faced significant disruptions due to adverse weather conditions, including rain and mud, which have led to road closures and stranded participants.
Burning Man keeps getting older.
Last year, an increasing share of attendees of the nine day festival in Nevada’s Black Rock Desert were in their 40s and 50s, according to data collected by the festival’s organizers, while the share of people in their 20s continued to shrink. In fact, the share of Burners in their 50s surpassed the share of those in their 20s in 2025, the data shows.
This year has seen an even larger percentage of age 50+. The final data will be quite shocking according to festival sources.

About 37% of Burners last year reported making between $100,000 and $300,000 in personal income, the data shows. Roughly a quarter made less than $50,000, while another quarter made between $50,000 and $100,000. About 10% made more than $300,000.
