I Am A Roadie

I am a Roadie.

I will always be a Roadie.

I am a Roadie For Life.

The public can never understand the things we have seen. They would never believe the things we have experienced and the thrills we have felt making the big rock shows happen.

Now the bad news…

Eventually we became too old to tour. This happened to me and it will happen to all of you at some point. The technology passes us by or our body simply gives out and we step aside for younger souls to take our places. It will be ok because all you have to do is put on a pair of headphones and dial up your old friends and re-live the shows you made possible. I can only hope the “replacements” appreciate what they are inheriting and the torch that is being passed to them.

My only advice to them is don’t take anything for granted…soak it all up. Take lots of photos (I didn’t) and make lots of lifelong friends (I did). When a new guy joins your crew help them learn and adapt (because I bet someone did that for you). Appreciate what you are experiencing every moment because before you know it the final curtain closes.

Exit stage right… house lights

Thank You To Karl Kuenning RFL

I was so impressed with what Karl wrote that I contacted him right away hoping to get the okay to post it here. What I will add is it all goes by way too fast and even faster after that last load out. It is a privilege to be a roadie and as Karl said, “Appreciate what you are experiencing every moment because before you know it the final curtain closes.”
